DEAN'S MESSAGE

Hello, dear friends! We are glad to welcome you at our faculty of International Economics of Baikal National University of Economics and Law.

Irkutsk is located on the intersection of the main trade routes which connect the West and the East. Despite Irkutsk being fairly near Asia, it's yet a European city! The architecture, streets' style, stores and museums — everything here resembles Europe though with a Russian touch. Irkutsk is also called "Siberian Paris".

Long-time relationships with Europe affected the development of the Irkutsk oblast economy. Siberian businessmen deal with entrepreneurs from the countries of the European Union. The consumer market of the Irkutsk oblast contains many products, made in Europe, especially much valued German house-hold appliances and automobiles.

Nowadays much attention is paid to training of highly qualified specialists in the sphere of foreign economic activity. Such specialists are raised at the faculty of International Economics of Baikal State University of Economics and Law. The faculty itself is rather new. In 1989 a new specialization "Economy of the Eastern Asia" was established within the faculty of Commercial Activity. Then in 1994 our faculty of International Economics was set up.

Graduates of the faculty are known in the Irkutsk Region and beyond. They acquire profound knowledge both in economics and foreign languages such as European and Oriental languages. The latter undoubtedly fosters cooperation with foreign partners.

Our faculty is young, only ten years old, however we already can surely say that graduates of International Economics department are indeed highly qualified specialists in the sphere of international economic relations. Our graduates are known for their professionalism not only in Russia but also in Germany, Portugal, France, Japan, China, and other countries.
